Chayoma, Curse of the Jangura, is an African Fantasy graphic novel series created and co-written by Peter Chizoba Daniel, owner of PEDA studios. It involves Chayoma, a powerful warrior of the Chronicles of the Newborn universe created by Peter. Taking place in the East Africa Great Lakes region in the land of Kitura, the series follows Chayoma from her beginning as a child gifted with god-like fighting skills, her induction in the Jangura, a fierce people who fighting skills and spiritual powers are legendary, to her ventures alone as she discovers the Jangura treachery. Chayoma seeks answers to about her purpose amidst a growing conflict between nations, spurred by the personal ambitions of leaders and the hidden agenda of the gods and spirits.
I love this series. Peter is a great storyteller. I can easily see Chayoma as a novel, so skilled is its storytelling. The art of Chayoma is just as powerful and vibrant as its words. There’s action on almost every page, and if it’s not, you’ll be enthralled by the story. And did I mention the art? If so, it doesn’t hurt to mention it again.
The stakes are high in this story, and while Chayoma has shown her skills numerous times, her purpose in the coming conflicts still remain a mystery by the end of the second graphic novel. But that’s okay. You can go back as enjoying yourself looking at the amazing artwork. There's also a Chayoma motion comic available on Youtube that is just as engaging as the graphic novels. Chayoma: Curse of the Jangura, is a must have for all sword and Soul and Sword and Sorcery fans. I’m anxious to see where Peter takes us next, and I hope you’ll be along for the adventure, too.
